How to get off of the Roller Coaster

Do you enjoy theme parks? I love them! I grew up going to Disney, Universal, Busch Gardens, and Adventure Island. I loved the thrill of the roller coasters and crazy slides! It's up, it's down, and all around! So much excitement packed in to seconds of fun! Have you ever experienced "roller coasters" in life? One minute you're up and the next you're down. One minute you are invested and the next you are walking away. Whatever happened to consistency? Why do we chase squirrels? Often times, people get discouraged with fitness and healthy living. They don't see results because they are riding the roller coaster. Change does not happen over night. We have all heard it but we seem to forget. You did not put on the weight over night and you sure won't take it off over night. You did not attain high cholesterol or diabetes over night and you sure won't get rid of it over night. So how do you remain consistent in a new training program? There are several ways but here are a few of my favorites. I tell my clients to put a goal in front of them. Write it down, paste it on your computer, or have it pop up on your screen as a reminder. Get out your calendar and specifically mark the days/times you plan to exercise. Join a supportive community group, grab a buddy, or hire a personal trainer to keep you accountable. Keep track of objective data such as: weight, body fat, measurements, clothing size, etc. When you see small bits of progress you will keep fighting. Last but not least, fall in love with living a healthy lifestyle! Get excited to get in the kitchen and cook up new recipes with amazing foods. Get excited to go to a new class, try a new workout, or sign up for a road race! You have to see the big picture. The investment you make in your health now will save you from much pain and illness in the future. You will have numerous benefits that you can't see now but will be thankful for later. So, it is time to get off the roller coaster. Commit to a healthy lifestyle even when it's easier to be lazy. Surround yourself with encouraging friends and find the joy in life! You can do this. You just have to put one foot in front of the other day after day after day.

Much love and happiness,
